Merit Awards 2004 |
|
(This page is large
and may take a while to download) |
Origin of the Awards
- The NEiTA Foundation decided in 2003 to include ASG
Community Merit Awards as part of its awards program.
- The aim of these awards is to recognise outstanding teachers who
through their teaching activities have also made meritorious contributions to their school and local communities.
- The Foundation considered that as well as recognising excellent
teaching, it should contribute to the recognition of excellent teachers
at local and community level.
About the Awards
- Awards will be made in 2005 to up to 120 teachers – early
childhood,
primary and secondary selected from nominations made nationally by school communities – school councils, parent
committees, parents of children taught by the teacher and secondary
student councils.
- Awards are being facilitated by the NEiTA Foundation in consultation with teachers’ schools or
early childhood centres and the local
government authority responsible for the school or early
childhood centre site.
The NEiTA Foundation
- The NEiTA (National Excellence in Teaching Awards) Foundation
was initiated in 1994 by ASG, the Australian Scholarships Group, to
promote excellence in teaching and to encourage the community to
recognise and honour outstanding teachers.
- Since the NEiTA program commenced, more than 18,000 nominations have been received and over 700 teachers have been
recognised with state, territory and national awards.
ASG - the Australian Scholarships Group
- ASG is a not for profit co-operative of parents formed over 30
years ago which assists parents to plan for their children’s future
education.
- Today ASG is supporting over 300,000 parents and grandparents
whose children and grandchildren are enrolled for benefit programs.
It has assisted close to 40,000 students to complete their secondary
education and to start post-secondary studies at more than 200
colleges, universities and institutions in Australia and overseas.
- ASG has a network of local counsellors and information centres in
Australia and New Zealand. The Group can be contacted through its
website –
www.asg.com.au or via the telephone number 1300 367
