The ASG Community Merit Awards are an initiative of the Australian Scholarships Group (ASG) under the banner of the NEiTA Foundation. ASG was established in 1974 as a not-for-profit Friendly Society that has already helped more than 300,000 parents plan for their children’s education. The NEiTA Foundation was formed to support the teaching profession and the important role it plays in shaping tomorrow’s youth. Now in its twelfth year, the NEiTA Foundation has pioneered the recognition of teaching excellence through its awards programs and professional development grants.

ASG Community Merit Awards recognise teachers who engage their students in worthy activities to be of service to the community, and provide the local community with opportunities to support and participate in the work of the school. (Click here for more information)

Recipients of the NEiTA - 2005 ASG Community Merit Awards come from early childhood, primary, secondary and special education settings. Almost 2,400 teachers were nominated for the 2005 Awards by their school and student councils, by school parent bodies, parents and community organisations. Nationally 125 teachers from 110 schools were acknowledged with ASG Community Merit Awards in 2005 as recognition for their work in building the social capital of our schools within their local communities.
