Queensland:

Another record volume of nominations for outstanding teachers was received in 2003 from Queensland schools from Cunnamulla to Thursday Island. Again there were strong regional nominations from the Atherton Tablelands, Darling Downs, Sunshine and Gold Coasts and an increased volume from Brisbane. Among the outstanding teachers nominated from High Schools, there were several Science and Mathematics teachers, and specialist language other than English (Japanese, German, Italian), music, drama, vocational education and technology teachers. Teachers selected for the Regional Awards reflect the spread of excellent teachers throughout teaching systems within the state.

Awardees were welcomed at the Royal on the Park Hotel, Brisbane by the Vice-Chair of the NEiTA Foundation, Dr Arnold Bonnet with the awards presented by the Queensland Minister for Education, the Hon Anna Bligh MP. Teachers short-listed for further consideration for the 2004 National Awards will be notified later.
